SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Engineering Manager the Design Engineer ensures accuracy and compliance with company standards. The Design Engineer's role involves constant communication and interaction with design, sales, manufacturing, and technical control personnel to successfully manage projects. He/she is required to maintain technical competence and acquire new professional knowledge and skills through self-study and participation in training or other learning activities offered by the company. It is also expected that work will be carried out outside normal working hours to meet critical project milestones.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpret customer sales requests, propose steel storage system designs that creatively optimize the use of warehouse space, and evaluate the load capacity and stability of shelving and racking structures.
- Prepare and review technical drawings and specifications for industrial racking, shelving and multi-level storage systems to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with applicable codes.
- Provide timely technical assistance to internal sales, design and manufacturing personnel, project managers, customers, consultants and other subcontractors, including the resolution of unforeseen design, manufacturing and assembly issues during the life of a project.
- Provide design and project management assistance when required.
- Participate in special projects aimed at developing the company's engineering capabilities and initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Post-secondary education in engineering
- Strong analytical skills in structural design
- Proven experience with AutoCAD, modeling software (RISA 3D) and FEA software.
- Knowledge of applicable codes (NBCC, IBC) and standards (CSA S136, CSA S16, CSA W59, ASCE 7, NFPA 13);
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
